A Selection of Questions asked about our Mobile Dog Grooming Service

Here are a number of questions that we are asked about our mobile dog grooming service, we've listed them here to give you a little more information about us. If you require any further information please don't hesitate to call us,  we'll be pleased to discuss your dog grooming requirements.

Q: You’ve made an appointment, what happens now?
A: When we arrive for your appointment we will greet you and your dog in it's home environment, this helps the dog build a relationship of trust between us before we commence grooming.
If it is your first grooming appointment we will ask you to complete a short questionnaire so that we get to know about your dog. This will include your pet’s history, veterinarian details, and health and behaviour information as well as your contact details. We will then examine your dog and discuss it’s grooming requirements with you. Once the grooming needs have been decided on we will take your dog to our mobile grooming salon and get started.

Q: How long will my dog's grooming take?
A: This all depends on each individual dog as coat, condition, age, temperament, breed and style are all relevant factors when grooming a dog. When we meet you and your dog we can discuss any relevant issues as each client is different. Our main concern is the welfare of your pet whilst in our care and to make it an enjoyable experience for both them and us.

Q: Do you sedate any of the dog's that you groom?
A: We do not sedate any dogs under any situation. Only a Veterinarian can prescribe any necessary drugs for your pet. We sometimes will recommend clients to seek veterinary advice if we cannot groom a difficult dog, this is for their safety and ours. On the rare occasion where there is no alternative other than to sedate a dog to allow it to be groomed, we have the advantage of being able to take our mobile grooming salon to the vet's premises where your dog can be groomed with veterinary staff available on site. Sedated animals require special care and may be refused service if not arranged prior to our arrival at the appointment.
We also cannot administer drugs to your dog, should you have any problems in this respect then please ask your vet for advice.

Q: Will my dog be muzzled?
A: We very much prefer to build up a trust between your dog and the groomer. We very seldom find it necessary to muzzle a dog, however where dogs show signs of aggression or attempting to bite/lick the clippers or scissors it will be muzzled for both the dog's safety and ours.

Q: Can I stay with my dog?
A: Most dogs behave much better without their owners there to distract them. We will be happy to show you around our mobile dog grooming salon, as long as the dogs are not distracted. If any difficulty with a dog arises the owner will be consulted immediately.

Q: Will my dog be put in a cage?
A: We are grooming your dog as a bespoke service at your home, there is no reason why your dog should be caged from leaving it's home for our mobile grooming salon to returning home! Our salon is equipped with cages and these can be used where more than one dog is being groomed. Cages are safe and comfortable for your dog but where an owner has any issues with their use we will arrange for the dog to return to your home between its different stages of grooming.

Q: Does grooming include nails and anal glands?
A: Grooming always includes checking and, where needed, trimming nails. The only exception to this would be dogs that become overly aggressive or stressed to the point where it would be unsafe for us to provide this service.
The majority of dogs go through their lives without experiencing any problems with anal glands, so where they need emptying for them we recommend a check up from the vet to ensure that there is no infection or underlying reason for them to become full and irritating for your dog.

Q: What shampoos and conditioners do you use?
A: We only use top quality salon professional dog shampoos. We carry a range of different types of shampoo, including hypo-allergenic natural ingredient range from Doreen Paige, medicated shampoos and a range of coat conditioners.
If your dog has any skin conditions requiring a veterinary prescribed shampoo we will be please to use the shampoo supplied.

Q: When should I start getting my puppy groomed?
A: After your puppy has completed it's inoculations, make the grooming experience a part of your puppy's fun life as it grows up! Too many groomed breeds are omitted from the grooming experience at an early age, making it a less desirable experience for the adult dog. We'll be pleased to give your puppy a gentle grooming experience so that it both looks good and enjoys the time it spends with the groomer. The younger they start being groomed, the easier it is for them - and for us!

Q: How much will it cost?
A: Charges will vary dependent on the breed of dog, the grooming style and the condition of their coat. If you call us we can discuss your dog's grooming requirements and give you a guide price which we will be pleased to confirm on arrival at your home after meeting your dog and before grooming commences.

Please note that all verbal quotes or estimates are not definite until we have seen and assessed your dog.

Q: My dog has fleas, can you help?
A: Fleas are a nuisance, both to your dog and to you! They affect both your dog and your home and any other environment that your dog frequents. As a qualified groomer we are able to advise the correct course of action to eliminate this parasite from your dog's life completely (only killing the fleas on your dog will not eradicate the problem).

Q: Do you do Hand Stripping?
A: We do not do Hand Stripping. This is a time-consuming process and the cost of our time would be prohibitive. Mainly, breeds are hand-stripped for the show ring and those exhibitors who own them are familiar with their grooming requirements.

Q: I am unable to keep my appointment, what do I do?
A: Please call us to cancel and re-schedule as soon as you know that you won't be able to keep the appointment. We require 24 hours notice to allow us to fill the appointment time.

As a mobile dog grooming service we incur costs travelling to your home for a missed appointment, coupled with our loss of (self-employed) income from the lost appointment. For those reasons, it is necessary to charge a fee of 50% for turning up for appointments that are not fulfilled.

Q: My dog just needs his nails clipped, can you do that?
A: Nail clipping is a straightforward process and we will be pleased to clip your dog's nails for you. However, if your dog is groomed at regular intervals we will clip the nails as part of the grooming process and it shouldn't be necessary to clip nails between grooming appointments.

Q: Can you just give my dog a bath?
A: Of course we can - we have a fully equipped mobile dog grooming salon, including bathing facilities. We will be happy to take your dog for a 'wash and brush up'. For some breeds, we recommend an interim bath to keep the coat in good condition and to prevent knots and matting. We are also able to give a quick trim around the eyes and paws to keep things tidy too.

Q: What if my dog is timid or nervous?
A: The individual service offered by our mobile dog grooming salon is ideal for for timid or nervous dogs. The dog can meet the groomer in the safety and familiarity of their own home, accompanied by the owner, before transferring to the salon (just outside) for grooming. We have some experience of grooming nervous dogs and over time have built up a friendly and trusting relationship with many of them. Their actual grooming time is the only time they will be away from the home, no waiting around in grooming parlours or strange noises or other dogs to upset them.
